「Auld Lang Syne（オールド・ラング・サイン）」という曲は、スコットランドの民謡であり、日本では「蛍の光」という唱歌として親しまれている歌です。
この曲は日本のみならず、さまざまな国でそれぞれの歌詞が付けられ、広く受け継がれています。
しかしながら、アジア地域では Auld Lang Syne の曲になぜか自国の領土の大きさを誇示したり、戦いを鼓舞するような歌詞が付けられていることに気づきました。
この作品では、日本、韓国、中国に伝わる歌詞を同時に体感することで、アジアの地域性や文化、歴史の一端を感じ、互いの共通点と相違点を探るために制作しました。


"Auld Lang Syne" is a Scottish folk song.
Many years ago, this song had been adopted by many countries through a variety of
routes. Nowadays, this song has become popular around the world. Its lyrics are about the
pain of parting with friends.
However, the lyrics of this song in Asia have different meanings from the original.
The lyrics say to cherish their homeland, and show off the size of their homeland.
When the Japanese, Korean, and Chinese versions are placed side by side, the historical
relationship among the three nations before war becomes visible.
Through this work, while experiencing the lyrics of this song, I seek to reevaluate the
regional identities, cultures, and histories of Asia..

1.Seokbyeol-ui Jeong (석별의 정; literal translation: "The Sentiment of Farewell")
The lyrics of this song are based on the original lyrics of Auld Lang Syne.
2.Aegukga (애국가; meaning "The Patriotic Song")
Aegukga is the current national anthem of Korea. Its lyrics were originally sung to the melody of the
　Scottish song Auld Lang Syne and remained so until 1948.
